देहरादून । रिटायर्ड लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल गुरमीत सिंह ने आज उत्तराखंड के आठवें राज्यपाल के रूप में पद एवं गोपनीयता की शपथ ली है। उन्हें उच्च न्यायालय के मुख्य न्यायाधीश राघवेंद्र सिंह चौहान ने शपथ दिलाई। नवनियुक्त राज्यपाल श्री सिंह ने पूर्व राज्यपाल बेबी रानी मौर्य की जगह ली है। बेबी रानी ने विगत दिनों इस्तीफा दे दिया था। उनके इस्तीफे के बाद राष्ट्रपति रामनाथ कोविंद ने रिटायर्ड लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल गुरमीत सिंह को उत्तराखंड का राज्यपाल नियुक्त किया। इस अवसर पर मुख्यमंत्री पुष्कर सिंह धामी समेत कई मंत्री, विधायक मौजूद रहे। नवनियुक्त राज्यपाल रिटायर्ड लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल गुरमीत सिंह ने कहा कि पवित्र देवभूमि की सेवा करना मेरे लिए सौभाग्य कज बात है। वीर सिपाहियों के परिवार के साथ रहकर उनकी सेवा करूँगा। बच्चियों को सेना में जाने के लिए प्रेरित करेंगे। पर्यटन को लेकर अपार संभावनाएं, लघु उद्योग को बढ़ावा देंगे। सैन्य सुविधाओं को उत्तराखंड में और विकसित किया जाएगा। बता दें कि रिटायर्ड लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल गुरमीत सिंह डिप्टी चीफ ऑफ आर्मी स्‍टाफ भी रह चुके हैं। उन्होंने दो विश्वविद्यालयों से एमफिल की डिग्री ली है। कई पदकों से सम्मानित अधिकारी, लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल गुरमीत सिंह लगभग चार दशकों की सेवा के बाद फरवरी 2016 में सेना से रिटायर हुए थे। बता दें कि लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल गुरमीत सिंह ने सेना में अपनी सेवा के दौरान सेना के उप प्रमुख, सहायक जनरल और कश्मीर में नियंत्रण रेखा की निगरानी करने वाली 15वीं कोर के कोर कमांडर के पद पर काम किया। वह सैन्य संचालनों के अतिरिक्त महानिदेशक के रूप में चीन से जुड़े परिचालन और सैन्य रणनीतिक मुद्दों को भी संभाल रहे थे। सेना में रहने के दौरान, एक दशक से अधिक समय तक कई विशेषज्ञ समूहों, संयुक्त कार्य समूहों, वार्षिक संवादों और चीन अध्ययन समूह की बैठकों का हिस्सा रहे।
